| description | The purpose of this study is to learn the accuracy of eyewitness� account
reviewed from age, retention interval and interview techniques, and
interaction between age and retention interval, retention interval and
interview techniques and interaction age and interview techniques.
This study is an experimental study by manipulating interview techniques
and retention interval. The interview techniques consist of two variations,
the cognitive interview technique and the structured interview technique.
The retention interval used three variations, an hour, three weeks, and six
weeks. We did not manipulate the children�s ages, but differentiate them
by two groups, which are the 10 to 12 years old group and the 13 to 15
years old group. The subject in this research are 77 subject, consist from
33 subject for children at 10 to 12 years, and 44 for children at 13 to 15
years. But for analyzes only 67 subject, consist from 26 subject for
children at 10 to 12 years, and 41 subject for children at 13 to 15
years.The plan of this experimental study was the randomized factorial
mixed design. The measuring device used to study the account�s
accuracy was a film about bicycle thief. The data was analyzed by the
General Linear Model (GLM) repeated measured using SPSS program.
The result of this study reveals that age influenced the account�s
accuracy, while retention interval and interview techniques did not have
any influence. Children at 13 to 15 years old have more accuracy than
children at 10 to 12 years old. There was no difference in an hour, three
weeks and six weeks intervals, and also with the cognitive and structured
interview techniques. There was not interaction between age and
retention interval, retention interval and interview technique, But, there
was interaction between age and interview technique, children at 10 to 12
years old gave more accurate account using the cognitive interview
technique while children at 13 to 15 years old were more accurate by the
structured interview technique. |
