Resumo: | In 2008 Kerinci Regency became two administrative areas, which are
Kerinci Regency and Sungai Penuh City. Kerinci Regency doesn�t have any
wholesale market, where the market is in Sungai Penuh City on the other hand,
the role and functions of traditional markets in the region should be optimized to
meet the daily needs of the community. There are also indications of regional
inequality, in which the northen area is more developed than the southern area,
including its development of traditional markets. Traditional markets in the
northern part is being more developed than the southern one.
This study is titled �Factors Influencing the Development of Traditional
Market in Kerinci Regency�. The purposes of this study are: (1) to understand the
condition and distribution of Traditional Markets in Kerinci Regency, (2) to
review the development of Traditional Markets in Kerinci Regency (north and
south regions), (3) to identifying that discovers factors influencing the
development of traditional markets in Kerinci Regency. This study used a
descriptive qualitative method and comparative analysis. A qualitative research
method was used to explore and describe the development of the markets and its
influenced factors, while a comparative method was used to compare the
development of Siulak Baru Market, SemurupMarket in northern regions andwith
Sanggaran AgungMarketand Jujun Marketin southern region.The differences of
each factor also tried to identifying.
Based on the research results it was found that : (1) overall most
traditional markets in the northern region of Kerinci Region are more developed
than the southern region, (2) using the established indicators as the benchmarks of
market development, Siulak BaruMarketand Semurup Market (north region) have
higher market development indicators than Sanggaran Agung Market and Jujun
Market (south region), (3) there are 5 (five) factors influenced the differens of
traditional market development, which are total population, economy of the
community, accessibility, location, and geographic condition of the region. These
five factors, the dominant factors influencing the development of traditional
markets in Kerinci Regency respectively are (1) total population, (2) economy of
the community, (3) location, and (4) geography of the region.
