Summary: | Baubau is known as the port city since the 16th century. The beginning of its
physical development such as offices, settlement and public facilities developed
around the port, to simplify the trade and cruise lines. However, nowadays the
development of Baubau City has changed. The development which usually develops
around the port or coastal was gradually shifted to the hills. This is phenomena since
the socio-economic background of the people as fishermen, traders between islands
and nomads are still dominant. Expansion of the urban activities in fringe areas
(around the city core) has led to an irregular land use pattern, which has potential
causes to the reduction of green land, agricultural land, water catchment areas, slums,
and more expensive financial facilities. This research aims to describe the physical
development pattern of Baubau City and to identify the dynamica force factors
(centrifugal force and centripetal force) that affecting physical development of
Baubau City.
The method used in the study is qualitative deductive, measured from
theoretical framework and examined by the empirical facts in the field which were
acquired through informants and by using aksidental method. Meanwhile, its analysis
technique divided into two phases
