Summary:Public open space at the Kendari Bay waterfront is a space formed in the outskirts of Kendari Bay with elongated pattern follows the shape of the bay. It�s a community activity space in the downtown which is supported by the beauty of the bay. The strategic location of public open space in the downtown makes this open space as an area that has a strong traction of activity. However, the appeal has not yet been developed optimally, just formed as a spontaneity spatial arrangement model without followed by improving the quality of space. There are differences in the distribution pattern of activity in some open space areas. To measure differences of the distribution patterns, a study of user perception of space based on the settings of existing space in the region/area is conducted. The study uses quantitative and qualitative methods. A qualitative approach is used to express the problem and find out how the perception of visitors to the open space setting on the Kendari Bay waterfront. The Perception is concerned with issues related to the physical and the non-physical setting of the space based on visitors viewpoint. respondents were 225 people. Respondent was the visitors who were randomly taken in the area of open space in the Margins Kendari Bay. To do the analysis, the quantitative approach is used as the main grip. The primary data obtained from the field will be analyzed by using Multidimensional Scaling (MDS) program. Perceptual map obtained will then be concluded descriptively, find a way of solving a problem or issuing a directives design. The study result showed that the perception of visitors at public open space is influenced by the availability and the condition of open space setting both physical and non-physical. View is the most dominant factor compared to other settings in shaping the perceptions of visitors to select and use the open space. Besides view, other settings that affect the perception of the public open space visitors are vegetation, street vendors , activities , accessibility, and parking areas.
