description | This study aims to analyze the contamination of lead, copper and cadmium
in Jakarta Bay, to analyze the relationship between sediment with phytoplankton
growth, T. chuii and abnormalities A. beccari and to analyze the spatial
distribution of metal contamination in Jakarta Bay.
Sediment samples were taken using Mc Smith Intrye, and analyzed for
metals using AAS. Bioassay sediment conducted during 96 hour exposure to
phytoplankton, T. chuii. Secondary data like current, salinity and temperature
were provided to analyze oceanographic condition of Jakarta Bay.
Results showed that concentration of Pb, Cd, and Cu in Ancol and Sunter
estuary was above standard value provided by the CCME (1995). Indonesia had
not have sediment quality standards so it still refers to standards of other
countries. Generally, bioassay showed that sediment inhibits growth of T. chuii
(20.75-65.98%) and caused 31.05% abnormality of A. beccari in Ancol estuary.
Ancol and Sunter estuary are the worst region compare than East and West of
Jakarta Bay.
Conclusion from this research were Pb, Cd and Cu in estuary Ancol and
Sunter measured above standard value provided by the CCME and had to
bioaccumulated in sediment. Sediments are exposed for 96 hours can reduce the
growth of phytoplankton T. chuii and increase percentage of abnormalities of A.
beccari. This condition might affect ecosystem in Jakarta Bay because of
producer and deposit feeder function. The spatial distribution of Pb, Cd and Cu in
sediments is strongly influenced by the distance from the mainland and ocean
currents. Self purification could control contamination but still considered
carrying capacity of ecosystem and load of contaminant. |
