especially in the city of Sorong. Artemisinin-based combination therapy is the
antimalarial combination therapy with artemisinin derivative as one component of
the combination. Artemisinin-based combination therapy used in the city of
Sorong is a combination dihydroartemisinin-piperaquine and primaquine
(DHP+PQ). Since the use starting in 2008, DHP+PQ has not been evaluated for
use in the city of Sorong. The purpose of this study was to determine the efficacy
and side effects of dihydoartemisinin-piperakuin and primaquine in the treatment
of uncomplicated falciparum malaria in the city of Sorong West Papua province.
This study is an observational study to compare the results of the
examination before, during and after treatment. Case detection activities
conducted by purposive sampling is to determine the sample with certain
considerations are in accordance with the inclusion criteria. The study was
conducted at the General Hospital Sorong Regency, Malawei health centers, and
Remu health centers Sorong. Measuring the effectiveness of DHP + PQ is by
counting the number of parasites and axilla temperature on day 1st (D1), day 2nd
(D2), day 3th (D3), day 7th (D7), day 14th (D14), day 21th (D21), and day 28th
(D28) according to the WHOs protocol. Effectiveness of DHP+PQ characterized
by the absence of parasitemia and axilla temperature 37.5ºC on D28.
The result showed that of the 55 cases of falciparum malaria, not found
early treatment failure and late clinical failure. Found late parasitological failure
in 3 (5,45%) patients so that the DHP + PQ has a 94,55% efficacy. Possible side
effects caused by D HP + PQ include nausea (7,27%), vomiting (5,45%) and
dizziness (5,45%).
