description | The water is very essential for all living things, and groundwater is the main water resource supplying their needs. Yogyakarta city is one of the dense population cities in Indonesia. Moreover, due to this condition, the need of the natural resource as groundwater is increased every single year. Thus, the estimation of groundwater balance is crucial in order to assess the safe yield of the aquifer systems. This research aims to calculate the sustainable yield as well as optimum yield of the groundwater abstraction of each sub-districts, and to know the current groundwater abstraction rate and the impact of groundwater abstraction on sustainable yield in Yogyakarta City. The methodology of calculation which was used to conceptualize the safe yield is Healy and Cook (2002) method. Result of the total value of safe yield in Yogyakarta city which is 183 l/s is less than groundwater abstraction for domestic which is 742 l/s. This refers to unsafe groundwater usage. Furthermore, the total amount of the sustainable yield equals to 1,150 l/s. It can be divided into two levels: the low level ranged from 1 - 10 l/s referring to unsustainable groundwater abstraction and the moderate level ranged from 40 - 52 l/s referring to sustainable groundwater use. However, if the groundwater is used continuously, it will be risk to unsustainable groundwater abstraction. The optimum yield of the groundwater abstraction can be drawn by multiplying the sustainable yield into such number 40%, 60% and 80%. The optimum yield 40% is 460 l/s while the remaining water is 690 l/s and it is sustainable |
