Summary: | Propylene oxide is produced by reacting propylene and tert-butyl
hydroperoxide in liquid phase. The reaction is exothermic and will be running in
a fixed bed single tube reactor. The reactor will be operated in anadiabatic
condition at temperature of 110°C and pressure of40 atm.The products and excess
reactants are separated by usingdistillation column, absorber, stripper, and
bubble column. The main product is propylene oxide99.8% with side products
tert-butyl alcohol98.8%. This plant will be operated at a capacity of 240,000
tons/year. Raw material used are 20,72.48 kg/hour of propylene and 43,830.45
kg/hour of tert-butyl hydroperoxide. The needs of water for utility is 347,814.70
kg/hour, electricity demand is 934.6480 kVA, and natural gas demand is
355.530,06 ft3/hour.
This plant will be built in Cilegon, Banten, on the land area of 14 ha,
includes planned area for expansion. The amount of labor needed is 257 staff and
shift employees. From economic analysis it is obtained that the fixed capital
investment is Rp44.987.946.990,27 + US$70,081,133.04 and working capital is
Rp22.515.428.582,45 + US$ 257,212,474.24. Assumed that this plant is high risk,
it isfound that Return on Investment before tax is 81.31% and after tax is 40.66%,
Pay out Time before tax is 1.10 years, Break Even Point at 54.91%, Shut Down
Point at 47.75% and the Discounted Cash Flow Rate of Return is 22.13%.
Based from the evaluation it can be concluded that this propylene oxide
from propylene and tert-butyl hydroperoxide plant is interesting to be studied
further.
