Summary: | Background : Medical wastes in health care has been a focus in the healthcare
world today. Proper waste handling would have a better impact to the surrounding
environment. Srandakan Health Center has had programs in place their waste
management, this situation has also supported the existence of incinerators. Burning
of waste, either internally generated by the clinic also came from primary health
care or private doctors. This study aims to describe the management of medical
waste management in primary health care of Srandakan.
Method : This study used a qualitative approach with a design case study. The unit
analysis in this study is primary health care. The study was conducted at the health
center Srandakan, Bantul, Yogyakarta in August 2012 to March 2013. Research
subjects were 36 people where they are taken through a purposive sampling
technique. Data collection used was indepth interviews, focus group discussions,
observation, and document review.
Result : This study shows the process of medical waste management in accordance
with the SOP. But the waste shipment was often constrained by time and
transportation. waste products of incineration also have resulted in contamination.
Conclusion : Medical waste management has been qualified. However, the
orientation of the medical waste management is still limited in the handling, not the
sources and green.
