Silver nanoparticles can be used to detect high concentrations of cyanide, however it will be difficult to detect the low one. The detection of low concentrations of cyanide compound can be done by utilizing the phenomenon of surface plasmon resonance (SPR). Changes in the SPR curve shape indicates the presence of cyanide in water. Moreover, study shows that the combination between silver nanoparticles and SPR phenomenon can be demonstrated better to detect cyanide. Silver nanoparticles will reduce the minimum value of the SPR angle. However, when exposed to water containing cyanide, silver nanoparticles will turn into AgCN, so it will raise the return value of the minimum angle of the SPR. With those combination, can be analyzed that the changes in shape of the curve is based on changes of the value of the minimum intensity reflection SPR angle. Even so, without the use of silver nanoparticles, the SPR phenomenon can already indicate the presence of cyanide in water. The analysis used in the detection of cyanide in these systems were done by analyzing the changes of how dip the SPR curve is. The difference ability used silver nanoparticles and without silver nanoparticles, namely the distinction cyanide concentration. Without the silver nanoparticles, the concentration of cyanide cannot be distinguished. With the addition of silver nanoparticles, it can be distinguished cyanide concentrations below 2.12 mg/L and cyanide concentrations above 2.12 mg/L.
