strategies. Based on the data analysis, 37 requests expressing the use of negative
politeness strategies were found: 10 (27) requests were expressed by using
negative politeness strategy number 1 be conventionally indirect, 12 (32.4) by
negative politeness strategy number 2 question, hedge, 3 (8.2) by negative
politeness strategy number 3 be pessimistic, 2 (5.4) by negative politeness strategy
number 4 minimize the imposition, 2 (5.4) by negative politeness strategy number
5 give deference, 2 (5.4) by negative politeness strategy number 6 apologize, and
6 (16.2) by negative politeness strategy number 7 impersonalize speaker and
hearer. No requests were expressed by using negative politeness strategies
numbers 8 state the FTA as a general rule, 9 nominalize, and 10 go on record as
incurring a debt, or as not indebting hearer. It was found in this research that
strategy number 2 question, hedge is considered as the most commonly used
strategy to express requests in the movie. |
