now, the story we often hear about the fate of women workers are cases in urban
industry. Be interesting if the context is changed to the lives of women workers in
the rural industries. This study aims to determine how the picture of the lives and
working conditions of women workers in rural industries and how they survive.
The study was conducted during the months of June-July 2013 in the
Textile City precisely in Jetis Village, District Sukoharjo, Sukoharjo Regency,
Jawa Tengah. This village is home to the one of the largest textile and garment
factories in Southeast Asia, PT. Sandang Jaya. Five women workers of PT.
Sandang Jaya became key informants. Through participatory observation and indepth
interviews, obtained the results of research that describes the everyday life
of women workers both inside and outside the factory plant.
The working conditions of women workers of PT. Jaya clothing tends
turns bad. They are faced with long working hours, delayed production, shift work
and overtime relentless and contract labor system which is very harmful. Not to
mention the various risks that threaten job. The hard work of women workers was
not matched by the provision of adequate facilities company. Minimum wage and
no wage increases corresponding period of employment is the reply given by the
company. But �rather than unemployed� became a powerful impetus for women
workers to keep working. Apparently they did not realize the two great powers
who have collaborated ie financiers and governments. For the benefit of the two
actors the labor force are sacrificed. Unions with no no repercussions further
facilitate the exploitation and labor rights abuses. On the other hand arising
solidarity among women workers during the work process seems to have reduced
awareness of unequal industrial relations. The production process was stressful
lived as normal. |
