Summary: | PT Industri Sandang Nusantara Unit Patal Secang is a company which
produces yarn. Production activities at the company consists of three main stages,
namely pre-spinning, spinning, and finishing. The three stages have potential
hazards that threaten the safety and health of workers. This study aims to
determine the level of risk of harm in the production process and the results are
used to develop appropriate risk control recommendations for the company.
In this research, the risk of hazards is assessed and the recommendations
to reduce the impact of risk are developed through HIRARC (Hazard
Identification, Risk Assessment, and Risk Control) approach. Hazard
identification is done on the three main stages of the production process with Job
Safety Analysis (JSA). Risk mapping is done to establish risk management
priorities among the three main stages of the production process. Risk assessment
performed on the stages of production that became priority on the risk map. The
process of risk assessment refers to hazards that have been identified with JSA.
The results showed the hazards which exists on the production process
consists of mechanical hazards, physical hazards, chemical hazards, and
ergonomic hazards. Risk map for the spinning stage shows that there are hazards
that lies in the first quadrant so that the spinning stage become priority in the
development of recommendations for risk control. The results of risk assessment
indicates the highest risk are the hazard of noise exposure (risk value 15),
sandwiched to carding and drawing machine (12), fiber dust exposure (10), fell
from the footrest of carding and drawing machine (8), and crushed by the bobbins
in ring spinning process (8). Recommendations given to reduce the risk level are
to replace equipment or substitution, redesign of the workplace, as well as
perform administrative control.
