| description | Water is the very important component in the lives of living creatures in
this universe, but the existence is getting rare day by day. It is necessary to
develop water conservation. Local society with their wisdom might become one
of the successful factors for water resources conservation. One of the societies
who still maintain their local wisdom is Using Community as the local society in
Kemiren Village, Glagah Sub-district, Bayuwangi District, East Java Province.
The purpose of this research is to identify the local wisdom and describe the
inheritance process of local wisdom related to water conservation in that village.
This research used qualitative approach. The process to find data done in
1,5 months which divided into some stages, such as: first observation, live with
the local society (live in), interviews, and Focus Group Discussion (FGD). The
process to obtain information used the principles of snowball snampling. The
FGD done with key figures whom choosen while the live in and interviews
process. Data analysis in this research done by data reduction, display the
obtained data, then interpret the results of the data that obtained in the forms of
local wisdom of Using Community in Kemiren Village related to water
conservation and cultural inheritance.
The results of the research shows that the usage, protection, and
maintenance of the vegetation around the water resources inspired by values,
norms of specific rules, beliefs, myths, and social activities. The forms of the local
wisdom such as Rebo Wekasan, prohibitation to logging the trees around the
water resources, eman character of Kemiren people, etc. That local wisdom was
able to preserve water resources in Kemiren Village. Inheritance process of local
wisdom of Using Community in water conservation conducted from generation to
generation or regeneration and through art and culture. And supported by an
environment that is able to encourage people to always obey the values, norms or
specific rules, beliefs, myths, and social activities. |
