Summary: | Gasification is a method of utilization of biomass waste which could produce
energy. Feedingdensification of biomass for the gasification process was important,
since it affect the result of the gasification process. Screw mechanism for feeding
densification is one of the solution for that problem. This experiment aimed to design
and to find the performance of the screw system in feeding and densification of the
biomass within gasification process with updraft gasifier.
The experiment begins with designing the screw for feeding and densification.
The performance was tested by giving different time interval treatment between the
operations of the screw system of, 3 minutes, 4 minutes, 5 minutes and 6 minutes
respectively. The parameter observed was the temperature of the combustion, the
temperature of the stove, and the temperature of the hopper and the duration of the
fire lit in the gasifier stove for each treatment. To find the effect of the treatment for
the parameter observed, completely randomized design (CRD) analysis was used. To
determine the best treatment, the Simple Method Attribute Ranking Technique
(SMART) method was also used.
The experiment of designing the screw system generate the material feeding
speed of 33,3 gram materials per second with 45 rpm rotation. The result of
performance and statisticall test shows that the different treatment did not affect the
combustions temperature, stoves temperature, and the hoppers temperature either
for the 3 minutes, 4 minutes, 5 minutes and 6 minutes variations of interval given.
The usage of time interval 3 minutes variation between the operation of the screw
system give the best result with the average of combustion temperature 141,39°C,
average stoves temperature 383,04°C, average hoppers temperature 41,03°C and the
average duration of the lit of fire in gasifier stove 166,67 minutes.
