Summary: | A high population in Jakarta has been related with the increase number of
vehicles which in 2012 it reached 94,2 million units. This has been causing traffic
congestion and increase of the noise level. On the street of Jendral Gatot Subroto,
two types of urban forest that are expected to reduce the noise, firstly the random
distribution of trees in Manggala Wanabakti area and secondly the clumped
distribution of trees in DPR/ MPR area. Those type of urban forest are assumed to
result in different extent of noise reduction. This study aimed to identify the
variation of noise in those urban forests.
The measurement, calculation, and evaluation of the noise level has been
conducted according to Decree of Ministry of Environment Number: KEP48/
MENLH/11/1996. The noise level was measured at four distance points: 0 m,
30 m, 60 m, and 90 m from the noise source and was repeated three times in each
urban forest. The other parameters measured were tree density, tree height, denses
of urban forest, air temperature, air humidity, and wind speed.
The result showed that noise level in both urban forest types vary. The
range of noise level in Manggala Wanabakti urban forest was 74,18 ± 5,6 dB and
DPR/ MPR urban forest was 71,94 ± 7,1 dB. The noise level in both forest was
above 65 dB, which is above the allowed noise level for business area. The
reggresion analysis showed that the parameters of vegetation density, tree height,
wind speed, and the reduction of noise according to the distances from the noise
source were the function of noise level in Manggala Wanabakti. The higher
vegetation density and wind speed resulted in lower noise level. The lower tree
height and the closer from the noise source resulted in higher noise level. The
noise level in DPR/ MPR urban forest was influenced by tree density parameter.
The higher tree density makes the higher noise level.
