description Insulation is a material that can separate electrically two or more adjacent conductors. It is an important component in high voltage engineering because it can prevent the occurrence of leakage current and flashover that could disrupt electrical power systems. An insulating material must has good electrical properties like high breakdown strength, high resistivity, low losses. Besides those, insulating materials are also required to have good mechanical properties that is able to withstand the mechanical and electrical disturbance due to its operation on the high voltage. One type of insulation is insulating tape, which is generally used to cover all wire and cable splices with spesific voltage rating. ions Environmental conditions such as temperature, humidity, air pollut have the significant influence on the ability of an insulation material in isolating electrical equipment. To determine the effect of humidity on the breakdown voltage characteristics and dielectric strength of insulating tape, one kind of insulating tape on the market was examined by using high voltage AC test at the various layers. Insulating tape was subjected to humidity levels 63% 70%, 75%, 80% , 85%, 90% for a certain period.
