| Summary: | Dental ultrasonic scaler is a popular tool used to remove plaque and calculus from the tooth surface. The procedure for removing plaque and calculus not just only one time but duplication is needed with controlled number of application in order to not damage dental enamel. The purpose of this study was to determine the influence of the type of ultrasonic scaler tips and duplicate applications on enamel's depth of damage.
Twelve extracted human maxillary first premolar teeth were selected. Buccal side has been marked for application of BE1 tip, and on palatal side has been marked for application of BE2 tip. All 12 teeth were divided into four groups for each 5, 10, 15, and 20 times application. Transverse cut through the treatment areas were applied, and then observed using Examet Union® digital microscope with 10x magnification through computer monitor. Depth of damage was measured by ImageJ® software.
The Two Way ANOVA results showed that there were significant influence (p<0,05) for each the type of ultrasonic scaler tips and duplicate applications on enamel's depth of damage. The LSD results showed that there were meaningful mean difference (p<0,05) between treatment groups. The conclusions of this study there was influence of the type of ultrasonic scaler tips and duplicate applications on enamel's depth of damage.
