Summary: | Natural zeolites were modified with iron oxide by coprecipitation method
and investigating the effect of temperature and pH on the type of iron oxide. To
assess the effect of temperature, zeolite-magnetit composite wassynthesized ata
variation ofroom temperature, 50 C and 85 C at pH 9. Furthermore, to assess the
effect of pH, natural zeolit was magnetic modified at pH variations of 10, 11 and
12 of a temperature. The zeolite-magnetite at the optimal condition of temperature
and pH were applied as adsorbent Cd(II) . Composite characterization was
conducted using X-ray diffraction, infrared spectrophotometry, atomic absorption
spectrophotometry and isothermsadsorption methods.
The results showed that optimal conditions to magnetic modified of
natural zeolit known at temperatures 85 C and pH 11. Zeolite-magnetite was
able to adsorbCd(II)with adsorption rate constanta(k) is greater than a that of the
activated zeolite, adsorption rate constanta was 0.0160 (g/mg minute) by activated
zeolite adsorben and adsorption rate constanta was 0.0648 (g/mg minute) by
magnetic zeolite adsorben with following Ho second-order pseudo kinetics
adsorption. By using an external magnetic field of zeolite-magnetite adsorbent
recovery can be done more quickly thana that of the activated zeolite adsorbent.
