This research has the aim to determine: the factors that affect interpersonal
communication, and its influence on innovation decision-making toward onion
cultivation in sandy in Sanden subdistrict of Bantul regency.

The method used in this research is descriptive method with survey
technique. The villages samples were selected purposively by
chosing the most potential villages in onion cultivation in sandy coastal land,
which is a group of farmers namely Manunggal from Srigading village and farmer
group of Karangrejo from Gadingharjo village. It was taken randomly as much as
30 farmers from each farmer group. Data were analyzed by frequency distribution
tables and Chi Square analysis.
research results showed that the factors that affect interpersonal The
communication are farmers� level of education that affect positively, age and
being active farmer in group that affect negatively, while other factors, namely
land size, attitudes and motivations do not affect the farmers interpersonal
communication. Interpersonal communication with farmers� relatives, group
leaders, merchants and universities influence the decision making of nurseries.
Furthermore, farmers� interpersonal communication with the elucidators, group
leaders and traders affect harvesting decisions. Finally, interpersonal
communication with the head of a group of farmers, merchants, counselor of the
department and college influence to decision-making on plant pest control and
marketing in onion cultivation in sandy coastal land.
