Summary:This study aims to determine : 1 ) social and economic changes that occurred at farming household in dealing with dry season , 2 ) the livelihood efforts of farm community in facing dry season, 3 ) the factors that affect the farming household in making livelihood efforts in Tepus Sub-District, Gunungkidul Regency to change livelihoods in facing dry season. The method that is used in this study was a descriptive analysis method with qualitative approach that endeavours to reveal the facts of an event, object, activity, and processes \"in reality\" at the current time or at the possible period time as remembered by the informants. The obtainedfacts then were analyzed and clarified with various techniques such as surveys, interviews, observations, and case studies. Informants in this study were 15 farmers, Head ofSureng I Hamlet, Head of Social SectionTepus Sub-District and Staffs of Tourism DepartmentTepus Sub-District. Selection of interviewed informantswas done with purposive method. The results showed there were some changes occurred in social and economic life of farmers inTepus Sub-District,Gunungkidul Regency during dry season in the form of changes in livelihood, livelihood system, consumption resource and livelihood strategies. The efforts made by farmers in facing dry season were doing diversification of livelihood, use of savings such as money and livestock, food diversification and to reduce the quality and quantity of food consumed. Factors that affect farmers in diversifying livelihoods were age, gender, education level, number of family members, relations ( networks ) and work experience.
