Summary:Calcium hydroxide is widely used as a root canal dressing material because of its favorable alkalinizing effect. The aims of this study is to determine the effect of contact time of calcium hydroxide paste mixed with 2% of chlorhexidine digluconate, saline, and 2% of lidocaine HCl as a sterilization material on the dentin pH on the apical third of the root dentin. Forty - five intact mandibular premolars were used in this study. All teeth were instrumented with crown � down technique using Protaper Rotary files and 6 mm of apical roots were cut horizontaly. All teeth were assigned randomly into 3 groups of 15 according to the contact time and the vehicle of calcium hydroxide. Group I 2% of chlorhexidine digluconate
