Summary: | Five years old Perhutani superior teak or Jati Plus Perhutani (JPP) has low
density. Surely this affected on limited utilization of wood. One treatment has proven to
improve quality and properties of the wood is densification. Densification consists of two
technique i.e. Impregnation and compression. This research is purpose to determine
interaction of temperature and pressure on densification and wood adhesion properties of
five years old JPP wood.
Samples selected from JPP plant on Perhutani KPH Cepu. Samples made with
size 2 x 2 x 15 cm. Densification is performed by variation of pressing temperature i.e.
170, 185 and 200 °C and combined with variation of pressing pressure i.e. 500, 1000 and
1500 kg/cm² for 5 minutes. This research is using completely randomized design with
three replications on factorial experiment. The parameters that observe i.e. compression
volume, percentage of compression volume, the increases of number vessels by unit area,
percentage of the increases of number vessels by unit area, density, bonding strength and
percentage of wood damage.
The result of the research shows that interaction of pressing pressure and
temperature gives different effect on following parameters i.e. compression volume,
percentage of the compression volume, the increase of number vessels by unit area, and
percentage of the increases of number vessels by unit area. Temperature of pressing gives
different effect on density. Pressure of pressing gives different effect on density and
percentage of wood damage. The combination of pressing pressure and temperature 1500
kg/cm²
