Summary: | Diesel engines efficiency rating is only about 30% - 40% and the rest of
the energy released as waste heat. Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) is used to
recover waste heat from diesel engine so the system can produce additional
electricity thus increase in efficiency. In ORC there is an equipment that can be
used to recover heat from turbine, called recuperator. In this study, the model of
ORC was made using Cycle-Tempo. The study was conducted by comparing the
efficiency of the system obtained when using R134a, R245ca, and R245fa as
working fluid. These working fluids were compared in the system with
recuperator and without recuperator. The results found that recuperator increase
the efficiency of all working fluids. Evaporator inlet temperature is increased if
recuperator added in the system. In addition, mass flow rate in the system with
recuperator is lower than in the system without recuperator. Working fluid that
produces highest cycle efficiency is R245ca in the system with recuperator with
the efficiency rate of 18.99%, has increased 9.03% when compared if R245ca is
used in the system without recuperator (9.96%).
