role. Erosion is a natural phenomenon which is related to hydrological cycle that
occurs in a watershed. Erosion has become a national issue since 1970, because
excessive erosion may cause land degradation. The government has made various
attempts for watershed management. But until now the prevention of watershed
degradation is still not optimal. One of the watersheds in Indonesia that is considered
to have high probability for the erosion to occur is Secang watershed. It is because
Secang watershed has hilly topography. Watershed management needs a proper
decision. The most important thing before making that decision is to know the level
of the Erosion Hazard Level (TBE) in watershed, because different level of TBE
needs different conservation. TBE identification in watershed can be done by
modeling the rate of erosion using the Universal Soil Loss Equation ( USLE ) which
is integrated with GIS.
The first step in identifying TBE of Secang watershed was to delimite the
watershed and sub-watershed boundaries. There were five sub-watersheds in Secang
watershed as a result of sub-watersheds delimitation, namely sub-watershed I, subwatershed
II, sub-watershed III, sub-watershed IV, and sub-watershed V. Then to
calculate the erosion rate based on USLE by assessing the erosion parameters,
namely: rainfall erositivity, land erodibility, slope length and slope steepness, land
cover and conservation. Finally, TBE can be classified from the erosion rate.
The results of erosion rate classification of Secang watershed indicate that
there are five levels of TBEs, namely very low level, low level, moderate level,
severe level and very severe level.Conservative action in Secang watershed should
be focused on low level, moderate level, severe level and very severe level area,
which is about 1465,51 ha or approximately 70,38% of watershed Secang total area.
From the analysis results it can be concluded that sub-watershed V has the highest
potential to produce sedimentatation in Sermo lake. |
