Summary: | Water management is one of the factor to be considered in rice cultivation.
Inundation is one of the cultivation techniques to improve the productivity of rice.
Inundation that given optimally able to increase the growth and productivity of
rice, but on the other hand can reduce growth and productivity if given
inappropriately. The objectives of this research was to determine the resistance,
carbohydrate status and growth of rice plants (Oryza sativa L.) cultivars Inpara 5
and IR64 at different depth and duration of inundation. This experiment was
designed using completely randomized design with 2 factors, i.e.: depth and
duration of inundation. The depth of inundation consist of 3 levels i.e: no
inundation, partially inundation and completely inundation. The duration of
inundation consist of 3 levels i.e.: 5 days, 10 days and 15 days. The observed
parameters were percentage of survive plants, plant height, number of leaves,
plant biomass, chlorophyll content, soluble sugar, starch and soil pH. The data
were analyzed using Analysis of Variance test (ANOVA) and followed by
Duncans Multiple Range Test (DMRT) at 95% significance level. The results
showed that treatment of depth and duration inundation affect the resistance,
carbohydrate status and plant growth of rice cultivar IR64 and Inpara 5. Increasing
in depth and duration of inundation decreased plant resistance, plant height,
number of leaves, plant biomass, chlorophyll content and starch content of rice
cultivar IR64 and Inpara 5, but did not affect the soluble sugar. The resistence of
rice cultivar Inpara 5 was higher than IR64.
