Summary: | Bridge in poor condition may cause inconvenience among human
activities and will dangerous to cross by high volumes of traffic. It may occur due
to old and untreated condition or increasing of transportation needs. In this study
author took a case of suspension footbridge with 90 meters main span in
Kendalsari and Dompol village, Klaten built in 1993. From visual observations,
the bridge is in a poor condition and needs a renovation or element replacement.
Also a width of current bridge considered in adequate to meet the needs of society
today and in the future. Therefore the author makes a structure redesign as a
renovation design of Kendalsari Dompol Suspension Bridge.
Renovation analyzed in this study has a purpose to enhance the strength
and serviceability of suspension bridge. Enhancement is done by redesign bridge
structure element, such as adding reinforcement on the cable elements into two
pairs of main cable and replacing beam bridge profile with new dimensions of
steel profile. Designing was conducted by modelling suspension footbridge in
SAP2000 and determine load design that will work in bridge to obtain structural
response. Then the result of the structural response used to determine the element
structures that fulfill strength and serviceability requirements.
Results obtained from the design the bridge using steel profile C125.65.8.6
for transverse beam bridge, profile 2C-125.65.8.6 for longitudinal
beam bridge, 16 mm diameter round steel for hanger, a combination of two
IWRC6x37 cable 40 mm diameter for main cable and using current steel profile
for bridge tower that still meets the requirement. At bridge sub-structure used a
stone foundation with 5, 2 m long, 6, 1 m wide and 3,4 m depth. And also, the
analysis the current dimensions of anchor blocks is secure with load design
enhanced by a safety factor of 2, 03 against sliding and 3, 60 against overturning.
Deflection analysis obtained the maximum result 0.432 m at the half-span bridge
point that has fulfilled the permits of deflection requirement.
