Summary: | Background: Human identification is very important.
Fingerprint, dental record, and DNA analysis are the
most common human identification methods. However,
those methods can not be always used, for example in
the victims who have no fingers, edentulous, or the
bodies are in severe decomposition. Thus, we used
palatal rugoscopy because the palatal ridge is located
inside the oral cavity that will protect the palatal
ridge from trauma.
Objective: To know whether there is a significant
differences based on direction and length of the
palatal ridge which is dominantly cut by parallel
interincisivus line with raphe mediana palatinae
between Indonesian and India student.
Method: This was a cross-sectional study. A number of
144 subjects, 72 subjects are Indonesian and 72
subjects are India. Palatal ridges were examined on the
right and the left side of the palate for the direction
and length. We used chi-square for the statistical
analysis.
Result: Based on the direction of the palatal ridge,
the p value on the left side of the palate is 0,003 and
on the right side of the palate is 0,826. The length of
the palatal ridges could not be analyzed because the
results of all palatal ridges were long.
Conclusion: On the left side of the palate there is a
significant differences between Indonesia and India
student based on the direction of the palatal ridges,
but there is no significant differences on the right
side of the palate. There is no significant differences
based on the length of the palatal ridge.
