Summary: | The novel Allah n�est pas obligé written by Ahmadou Kourouma in 2000
is being used as the material object of this thesis. The problems appear in the
novel are colonialism and its relation to the identity formation. Those problems
are illustrated by using attractive narrative technique, therefore theory of
narratology is being used in this research. Another problems namely colonialism
and the identity formation, is analyzed using postcolonial theory and identity
theory. Based on the research results, the influence of colonialism are reflected in
the stylistic narrative which show the construction of black identity, such as less
educated, poor, racist, and believe in irrational things. However, the main
character trying to fight the construction by interpret the concept of Allah n�est
pas obligé not as a surrender to the destiny given by God. The rejection of the
concept implanted by the colonizers is reflected in the story of Birahima who
lived his life with a persistent struggle.
