description | Modeling of Cd in Winongo River using Visual MINTEQ has been
conducted to determine the speciation of Cd in various pH. The effects of load
from point sources, dispersion coefficient (Ex), river flow and distribution
coefficient (Kd) to the changes of Cd concentration in Winongo River were also
studied using WASP7.3.
Winongo River, was divided into four segments with the length range of
1.7-9.3 km. The data required for this study were obtained from literatures and
related agencies. Variables used in this study were pH (6.72-7.59), load from
point sources (without the disposal of waste, with the disposal of waste, increased
to 25, 50, 75 and 100%), Ex (0.8, 21.5 and 36.4 m2/day), river flow (average
monthly flow of 2 years (2007 and 2011), 3 years (2010-2012) and average
annual flow of 2 years (2007 and 2011) and 3 years (2010-2012)) and Kd (630.96,
79,432.82 and 1,995,262.32 L/kg).
Visual MINTEQ and WASP7.3 can be applied to simulate Cd in Winongo
River. The analysis result using Visual MINTEQ showed that the dominant
species of Cd formed in Winongo river was Cd(HS)2. Other species such as
CdHS+, Cd2+, CdCl+ and CdSO4 were also formed. The increasing of the river pH
would increased the concentration of Cd(HS)2, while the concentrations of other
species decreased. The modeling results using WASP7.3 showed that load from
point sources, dispersion coefficient (Ex), river flow and distribution coefficient
(Kd) affected the changes of Cd concentration in Winongo River. The increase of
load from point source on conditions the concentration of Cd in the waste is 0.01
mg/L (Goverment Decree DIY No.7/2010) and flow is 15 m3/day, show that the
concentration of Cd(HS)2 in Winongo River did not exceed water quality
standard. |
