description Background: Globally, stroke is the third most common cause of death in developed countries, exceeded by coronary heart disease and cancer. The incidence of stroke is increased in proportion with age, with two-thirds of all types of strokes occurs in people with age above 65 years and is higher in men than women. Hypertension has been the first leading cause of stroke both in ischemic and hemorragic type. By controlling the blood pressure estimated can nearly prevent 40% of stroke incidence. Objective: To identify the correlation between high level of blood pressure in admission and the outcome of stroke scored by Skala Stroke Gadjah Mad in acute ischemic stroke patient. Method: We use cross-sectional study with stroke patient in unit stroke between January until April 2013 as the samples. The data were gathered from medical report of stroke unit in Dr. Sardjito hospital with number of sample 67 patients. Data gathered were blood pressure when admitted to Stroke Unit, Skala Stroke Gadjah Mada (SSGM) score, and some of confounding factors. The analysis was done by testing the association between variable groups using chi-square test. Result: Chi-Square test showed that there is no significance differences between patients with high blood pressure categorized as grade 1 hypertension/grade 2 hypertension and stroke severity scored by Skala Stroke Gadjah Mada (SSGM) score with p-value = 0,097. Conclusion: No significance difference between outcome of stroke in grade 1 hypertension and grade 2 hypertension in acute ischemic stroke patients in Dr. Sardjito Hospital
