Description
Summary:Background: Dengue is the most mosquitoes borne viral disease of human, frequently in subtropics and tropical countries. Dengue occurs as dengue fever or dengue hemorrhagic fever (DF/DHF). It is caused by a virus and transmitted by Ae. aegypti mosquito. Pandanus amaryllifolius Roxb is a plant which belongs to the family Pandanaceae. Pandanus amaryllifolius Roxb had been reported to be used as an insecticide before. The investigation is to be done is therefore designed to prove the effects of methanol extract of P. amaryllifolius R. leaves specifically against Aedes aegypti. Aims: To proven that Pandanus amaryllifolius Roxb leaves have a larvicidal effect against Aedes aegypti and to know the LC50 and LC90 of methanol extract from Pandanus amaryllifolius Roxb leaves against Aedes aegypti. Methods: It Performed by using methanol extract from Pandanus amaryllifolius Roxb leaves against Aedes aegypti larvae. Third and fourth larvae stage were used, with different variation dosage after 24 hours of exposure and under standard condition in laboratory. Results: LC50 of methanol extract from Pandanus amaryllifolius Roxbs leaves is 1733.94 ppm while LC90 is reported at 7000.01 ppm. Conclusions: In laboratory setting, the methanol extract of Pandanus amaryllifolius Roxb leaves have larvicidal effect against Aedes aegypti. From the probit graph the increase of dosage concentration of extract also saw a linear increase in the mortality of the larvae.
