The aim of this research is to study the influence of isoflavone compound, 1,2-epoksi-3-[3- (3�,4�-dimetoksifenil)4H-1-benzopiran-4on]propana (EPI), sintesized from clove leaves oil (eugenol), to histological feature of liver especially liver degeneration on Sprague Dawley strain rats (Rattus norvegicus) whinch induced by DMBA. Thirty-six female rats were randomly divided into 6 groups of 6 rats. Normal control group was treated with standar diet only. DMBA group was treated with standard diet and 20mg/kgBW DMBA. The DMBA used in this study was diluted in corn oil. The corn oil group was treated with standard diet and corn oil. Three treatment groups were treated with standard diet, DMBA and EPI with 1mg/kgBW, 2mg/kgBW and 4mg/kgBW dose respectively. DMBA induction were done twice a week for 5 weeks. Standard diet and EPI were given once a day for 15 weeks. On weeks 16th, all groups were terminated and the liver was taken. Histological specimens of the liver were prepared and stained with haematoxyline-eosin. Liver degeneration level was examined under light microscope using 100x and 400x magnification in 5 observation field. The result showed that EPI 2mg and 4mg groups has lower level of liver degeneration compared to DMBA group (p<0,05). Therefore, it conclude that EPI with 2mg/kgBW and 4mg/kgBW dose was able to reduce liver degeneration of rats induced by DMBA.
