Description
Summary:Title. Correlation Between Immunoglobulin E (IgE) Sensitization of Pollen Allergen and Grass Allergen Background. Allergy can be found in 20% of population that having another abnormalities related to IgE. One of the allergens that can trigger hypersensitivity response is pollen. Pollen allergen can cause cross reaction towards another allergens, include grass. Objective. To analyze the correlation between immunoglobulin E (IgE) sensitization of pollen allergen with grass allergen. Method. This study used cross-sectional design with 134 samples aged 6 to 12 years (72 boys and 62 girls) from two elementary schools in Sleman, DI Yogyakarta province by simple random sampling. The datas were collected by using skin prick test and interview with questionnaire then analyzed using chi square test. Result. The results showed that from 134 children there were 28 children who showed positive SPT results for pollen allergen and 14 children have positive for grass allergen. And 13 of 134 children have positive result for both allergens. The prevalence ratio (95% CI) value is 43.194 (5.881-317.227) with p value < 0,001. Conclusion. There is a correlation between IgE sensitization to pollen allergen and grass allergen in the study sample.
