Description
Summary:Background : The increasing incidence of infectious diseases gives effect to uncontrolled use of antibiotics resulting in the emergence of resistance. Methicillin - Resistant Staphylococcus aureus ( MRSA ) is a major pathogen causing infections that resistant to beta-lactam antibiotics , and there is even some strains found resistant to vancomycin, the first line antibiotic for serious infections caused by this bacteria. Linezolid is a new antibiotic which can be used as an alternative therapy for MRSA infections. Objective: To compare the sensitivity of MRSA and MSSA against antibiotic linezolid. Methodology : This study used observational design. The Materials were Linezolid antibiotic. The samples used were MSSA and MRSA isolate collections of Laboratorium of Microbiology Faculty of Medicine Universitas Gadjah Mada. Isolates were examined using kirby bauer method and match it with clsi standard to determine its sensitivity. Results : Sensitivity of 9 MSSA and 9 MRSA isolates tested to the antibiotic linezolid with Kirby-bauer method were all equally sensitive. Conclusion : MRSA and MSSA are equally sensitive against Linezolid.
