| Summary: | This paper discusses the phenomenon of business clan \" Dewi Sri \" in
regional politics as the embryo toward political clan in the North�western part
of Central Java: Brebes Regency, Tegal Regency, Tegal City and Pemalang
Regency. Most of regional heads come from the same clan in which politicians
and businessmen take part so that it become pathology of regional democracy.
Businesses clan produces regional head who is estimateds as an apportunity to
transform political position into family organization. The purpose of this study
was to reveal the strategies used by business clan in order to achieve political
position. However, since this phenomenon is quite extensive, this study was
focused on the emergence of business clan. In this study, qualitative method
was used to track the resources of business clan by observing informal clan
organization including its profile and network. Description of the in�depth
interviews on clan, clan support and pressure groups allowed to uncover their
strategy to build power.
Two principal strategies of business clans to achieve political position has
been found in this paper. Firstly, expanding the economic resource to make 4
potential resources to work in the political domain: (1) Accumulating the
economic resources of the business initiated by the clan then promote personal
