description Economic load dispatch is one of the main functions in electrical power system operation, management and planning. The main objective of economic load dispatch is to minimize the total production cost of the generating system while the required equality and inequality constraints must be satisfied. Nowadays, with the increasing of public awareness of the environmental pollution caused by fossil-fired generating units, have emphasized the minimization of pollution in electrical power system. In this research, price penalty factor method is applied to convert multiobjective optimization problem in to singleobjective problem. This research has given a simple and effective approach to obtain optimal solution with a Differential Evolution algorithm. The feasibility of the proposed method is demonstrated on small scale 3-units and 6-units. Test on large scale 40-units also demonstrated using MATLAB language programming. The results shown that the algorithm capable and effective ini finding the optimal value on small scale test units on this multiobjective optimization problem and find the compromise value between fuel cost and total emission on the large scale test units.
