description | Dengue virus (DENV) infections are one of the most prevalent infectious
diseases in many parts of the world and affecting millions of people annualy. Despite
the growing threat from the spread of DENV, there is still no approved antiviral drug
for DENV infections. Actinomycetes are well known producers of pharmacological
and antiviral agents. Here, we screening ethyl acetate and aqueous extracts from
actinomycetes (GMY01, GMY16, GMY29, GMY57, GMR06 and GMR22) for their
antiviral activity against dengue virus serotype 2 (DENV-2). BHK-21 cell were
infected with DENV-2 and treated with ethyl acetate and aqueous extract. The
antiviral activity were analyzed by semi-quantitative RT-PCR and evaluated base on
the inhibition of DENV-2 replication. Results revealed all extract from all isolates
inhibits in vitro DENV-2 replication in dose dependent maner. The highest inhibition
activity was found at the concentration 25 μg/ml for all extract ranging from 80-90 %.
These results show the potency of aqueous and ethyl acetate extract from marine
actinomycetes as DENV-2 antiviral candidate. |
