type 2 DM. This study aimed to analyze the risk factors that plays a role in the
decrease of sweet taste in type 2 DM.
The study was conducted on 120 subjects of type 2 diabetes (67 males and 53
females), ages � 40 years who come to the internist clinic in Kota Yogyakarta
Hospital, from July 2013 to October 2013. Medical record was used for screening
subjects. Data on risk factors acquired from medical history, measurements and
laboratory tests. Evaluation of taste function was tested by chemical gustometry.
Data was analyzed by chi-square test and multiple logistic regression test with
significant level of 95% (p <0.05).
Statistical analysis showed that duration of diabetes and age were
significantly as risk factors that play a role in the decrease of sweet taste in type 2
DM ( p < 0.05 ), but they were not significantly to blood glucose levels, gender,
nutritional status , smoking, and medication. It can be concluded that the duration of
diabetes and age are risk factors for decreased of sweet taste in type 2 diabetes. |
