Summary:The expansive clay have and high of swelling that it is caused by deferensiate of water content. Footplate and mini pile can be used for load support. Main factor of building destroy is caused by heaving of expansive clay. State number of swelling is not equal, that caused heaving and cracking at the Highway Road, Concrete Slab and Lining Canal. On soft soil, the pile foundation support a little load, that it will be lifting up. According to the reason above are important, the research related to the effect of swelling on the lift up of piles. Swelling research was done, that is used high plasticity clay from Tuksono, Krebet, Wates, Kulon Progo. The research model is used box 120 x 120 x 120. The box content of 40 cm sand, 80 cm high plasticity clay with compressed. Also, it is used the pile model � 10 cm. The number of vertical swelling find out from the strainmeter conect to the straingauge. The proving ring provider the total swelling on first part of pile. The research use some models. There are variable of pile � 20 cm, 40 cm, 60 cm, and 80 cm. In this research, the water content test use the gypsum block. Shear resistant found out from shear test tool, water content are depth of pile. The result show the equation of water content test with gypsum block is y = 0,1124x+ 25. Characteristic of swelling pressure is affected by water content and depth. Swelling pressure affect pile heaving at active zone. Relationship swelling pressure and cohesi are show 0,05 x c kN/m2. Unit of shear resistance and direct shear can be prediction use fs(p) = 1,468 x fs(GL), and unit of shear resitance and cohesi is fs = 0,00224 x c kN/m2.
