description Background: Dengue is the most common mosquito-borne viral disease. The primary vector of dengue virus is Aedes aegypti. Vector control is threatened due to emerging resistance in vector mosquitoes to conventional synthetic insecticides, resulting in the need of alternatives such as botanical insecticides. Zingiber zerumbet is known to possess larvicidal properties against several mosquitoes larvae species in some previous researches done. Aim of the study: The aim of this study is to evaluate the larvicidal activity of chloroform extract of Zingiber zerumbet rhizome against the larvae of Aedes aegypti by determining the LC50. It is also to determine if the increasing concentration of chloroform extract of Zingiber zerumbet rhizome result in increasing mortality rate of Aedes aegypti larvae in laboratory setting in the district of Yogyakarta. Methods: 3rd & 4th instar larvae of Aedes aegypti were introduced to varying concentration of chloroform extract from Zingiber zerumbet rhizome for 24 hours under standardized condition. Results: The LC50 and LC90 value for the chloroform extract of Zingiber zerumbet rhizome after 24 hours of exposure are 87.59 ppm and 127.50 ppm respectively. Conclusion: Chloroform extract of Zingiber zerumbet rhizome have larvicidal activity against Aedes aegypti larvae. The increase in the concentration of the extract is proven to increase the mean larval mortality.
