order to prevent morbidity and mortality. It is also considered the most costeffective
intervention in addressing public health problems caused by infectious
diseases. The high number of deaths caused by diseases that can be prevented by
immunization is due to incomplete schedule of immunization (under-vaccination)
and the absence of vaccination to their babies (non-vaccination). West Sumbawa
coverage of immunization HB1, BCG, and Polio 1and Universal Child
Immunization (UCI) coverage still below of the target.
Health counseling or education is an effort to increase pregnant women�s
knowledge about immunization to their babies. Of several studies, some results
have shown that health counseling or education has a profound influence on
immunization in babies.
Objective: To determine the effectiveness of immunization counseling for
pregnant women (primigravida) on the decision to provide their babies with HB 1,
BCG and Polio 1 immunization.
Methods: This was a quasi experimental research and non- equivalent control
design. The study took place in the work area of Poto Tano and Sekongkang
Health Centers of West Sumbawa District of West Nusa Tenggara. The dependent
variable is Decision to immunization, counseling as the independent variable and
the level of parental education, parental beliefs against immunization, information
sources and place of delivery as the covariances variables. The analysis of the
research data used univariable, bivariable and multivariable analysis.
Results: Statistical test results showed that additional counseling in primigravida
influenced the decisions of immunization on the first contact that immunization
HB 1, BCG and polio 1 ( RR = 1.66, CI = 1.12 to 2.46, p = 0.006 ) |
