description | Bioethanol is an alternative fuel made from biomass which is contained
sugar component, starch and cellulose. Indonesian potential aquatic comodity to
be developed, macro-algae, could be the raw materials resource for alternative
fuel to substitute conventional fuels consequently. Eucheuma cottonii macro-algae
have a polysaccharide composition that consists of cellulose, carrageenan and
agar. Polysaccharide, especially cellulose, could be hydrolyzed into
monosaccharide (glucose) chemically or enzymatic, then fermented into
bioetanol.
This research is an E. cottonii macro-algae implemenation study to
produce substrate for bioethanol fermentation with the high reduction sugar
component. The raw materials came from Buton district, South East Sulawesi,
were in the form of dry seaweed. The procedure of this research: the reduction of
seaweed�s size. The next process was hydrolyzing with cellulase enzyme for 24
hours with enzyme consentrate variation (19, 36, and 52 IU) and temperature (40
and 500C). The sugar reduction analysis was done with Nelson-Somogy Method
then processed by using SPSS software (real difference test). After that, calculate
the cost of hydrolysis (financial aspect).
According to the result of research, it was known that E. cottonii seaweed
produce bioethanol fermentation substrate with sugar reduction indicator through
enzymatic hydrolysis process by using cellulase enzyme. The best condition of
enzymatic hydrolysis process within 12 hours was by elaborating cellulase
enzyme 36 IU at 500C temperature. It produces degree of sugar reduction
8,045 mg/ml or 0,865%. However, based on statistic analysis through t-test, the
result of degree of sugar reduction is not different with hydrolysis through 19 IU
cellulase enzyme at 500C which produces degree of sugar reduction 7,937 mg/ml
or 0,794%. Financial feasibility analysis of fermentation substrate production is
not feasible because the cash flow criteria are minus. On the other side, from the
financial criteria, Payback Period value is unlimited. The value of NPV is
-(Rp 1,676,367,500,-), B/C Ratio is -3,34, and there is no breakeven on BEP with
amount of production (-741,19 sugar reduction gram per year). |
