Summary: | WHO predict the number of diabetic patients in Indonesia in 2030
increased by 61% and elderly patients increased 4%. In elderly patients with
diabetes melitus are prone to complication disease the normative data are need to
improve the quality of life. The purpose of this study was determine the
correlation medication adherence and diabetes treatment satisfaction with quality
of life in elderly with type 2 diabetes melitus at clinical geriatric RSUP
Dr.Sardjito Yogyakarta.
The study design was a cross sectional study. The study was conducted on
60 patient elderly with type 2 diabetes mellitus at the Clinical Geriatri RSUP
Dr.Sardjito Yogyakarta during November 2013 to Januari 2014. Morisky
Medication Adherence scale (MMAS-8) was used to assess adherence and
Diabetes Medication Satisfaction ToolScale(DMSAT) was used to measure
treatment satisfaction and Short Form36(SF-36) is used to measure the quality of
life of patients. Outcome of the study is level of Adherence, treatment
satisfaction, and correlation of medication Adherence, treatment satisfaction and
quality of life of elderly patients with diabetes mellitus type 2. Stastistical analysis
using chi-square test.
The results of the study was found 81,7% of patients wew adherent to
treatment. The mean score of overall satisfaction is satisfied (7,10 ± 1,05) and the
SF-36 quality of life median mean (minimum- maximum) 62,66 (28,71 -98,81).
Adherence was significantly relationship with quality of life (P=0,012). There are
no significant differences between age, education level, type of ADO, Gender
and comorbidites in patients with quality of life of patients (P > 0.05).
