Description
Summary:Propaganda cannot be separated from Communist Party leadership in China. It can be traced back to the imperial era of china where propaganda played an important part of emperors leadership and remain relevant to todays China politics. It serves both as the tool of nation-building while maintaining partys legitimacy of monopolistic leadership. Internet on the other hand, is a relatively new technology for people of China. While being relatively new, Internet shows great influence within society with popularity rising each year. The Party tries to answer the challenge of socio-economic changes by adapting its propaganda policy by utilizing Internet as media of propaganda. The use of Internet as media of propaganda has high complexity with different mechanisms and departments involved. This thesis aims to answer how the Communist Party of China strategize to use Internet as media of propaganda while focusing on Hu Jintao to Xi Jinping era of leadership, with no intention of analyzing its effectivity or impact both for nation-building or regime sustainability in China. Propaganda model with its five filters and nation-building will both serve as the conceptual frameworks for this thesis.
