Summary: | Acrylic resin denture plate which is located in the oral environment can be
a good spot for the extrinsic stain accumulation. Extrinsic stain is defined as
discoloration located on the outer surface of the plate and is caused by extrinsic
agents. The extrinsic stain on the surface of acrylic resin denture plate can be
removed by three cleaning methods, which are mechanical, chemical and
chemical followed by mechanical methods. The objective of the research is to
determine the differences of denture cleaning methods mechanically, chemically,
and chemical followed by mechanical toward the release of extrinsic stain of
black tea on the surface of hot-cured acrylic resin denture plate.
The type of the research is experimental laboratories. The subjects of the
research are 30 hot-cured acrylic resin plates with the size of 60x10x2 mm, which
are divided into 3 groups. The entire subject was immersed in a solution of 2%
black tea for 14 days. Afterward, each group was cleaned up by using one of three
cleaning methods. The released stain was measured by using the
spectrophotometer UV- Vis Cintra 2000 based on the absorbance value of the
subjects.
The result of the research showed that there was significance difference
(p<0.05) in the release of extrinsic stain of black tea among mechanical, chemical
and chemical followed by mechanical cleaning method. Chemical followed by
mechanical method showed a significant value (p<0.05) of the difference of
extrinsic stain of black tea release than mechanical method and chemical method.
The chemical followed by mechanical methods of denture cleaning is more
effective to release the extrinsic stain of black tea on the surface of hot-cured
acrylic resin denture plate than the mechanical method and chemical method.
