Summary: | Almost totally of milk production in Indonesia is produced from FH
(Black-white)dairy cattle, and still ignore the use of other types of dairy
animals like goat, buffalo and sheep. This study is to examine the buffalo
as a candidate for producing milk under village condition in central java
and special region of Yogyakarta. The data collected from primary and
secondary sources using multiphase sampling collected of 34 respondent
living in Bantul, Sleman, Kulonprogo, Magelang and Klaten regency. Data
were observed buffalo house, reproductive performance and feed. There
are two kind of animal house individual and collective with the size more
then 4 m2/ head. Reproductive performances included the S/C is 1.76 and
age of first calving 3.98 years old.feed given did not to fill the need of
buffalo nutrition. Raising buffalo was contributed to save for farmers is Rp
25,941,176/farmer. Despite of difficulty to milk, it contain buffalo milk total
solid 17.1% higher than cow milk its 11.91%. is concluded that buffalo
could be used as a candidate for producing higher quality of milk by
improving daily management through training, feed and provent.
