Summary: | Edible film Ca-alginate with eugenol as plasticizer and chitosan was
performed. The forming edible film Ca-alginate was began with preparation of the
solution of alginate with various concentration of eugenol as plasticizer were 1, 2,
3, 4, 5, and 6% (v/v) in ratio alginate:chitosan 96:4 (w/w). Moreover, edible film
Ca-alginate was prepared for variations of chitosan in ratio alginate:chitosan 96:4,
94:6, 92:8, 90:10, and 88:12 (w/w) on concentration of plasticizer 5% (v/v). The
physical and mechanical properties of edible film such as tensile strength,
elongation to break, and water vapour permeability were studied in this research.
Characterization of Ca-alginate edible film was analyzed by using FT-IR.
The results showed that the optimum condition of edible film with various
concentration eugenol as plasticizer is the addition of 5% (v/v) eugenol with the
tensile strength 13.38 MPa, the elongation to break 5.79%, and water vapour
permeability 3315.98 g.mm/hr.m2.atm. Edible film reaches optimum condition in
ratio alginate:chitosan 90:10 (w/w) with the tensile strength 18.24 MPa,
elongation to break 3.57%, and water vapour permeability 3261.04
g.mm/hr.m2.atm. FT-IR analysis results gener
