ocean plate subduct under eurasian plate was cause of earthquake events in west
of Sumatra. Distribution of earthquake events in west of Sumatra influenced by
subduction underneath Sumatra Island.
Earthquakes are a result of the release of energy that accumulate and
confined in the earth's crust to the surface suddenly . in this study, the data are
scattered earthquakes in the study area in 1970 to 2012 with a magnitude 5->9
Richter Scale which totaled 1415 points are used to determine and evaluate the
angle of subduction of tectonic plates happens.
Based on analysis, there are many subduction angles are different in some
places. This difference suggests that different pieces of plate subduction with
different force direction. Sloping subduction angle has subduction force direction
in the east-northeast and quite steep subduction angle has subduction force
direction in the northeast. Although movement of the Indian ocean plate move to
the north generally, but the direction of the Indian ocean plate subduction towards
the northeast and it is different in some places. |
