Summary: | Some of the research by previous studies are the bamboo connection using bolts
and steel knot plates with wood or mortar filler. Those researches have some
shortcomings, for example not economical, complicated process, and too heavy
due to filling materials inside the connections. Therefore, this research proposes
a new kind of bamboo connection using Fibre-Reinforced Plastic.
This research uses double-shear configuration connection. The bamboo being
use in the test is bamboo wulung (Gigantochloa atroviolacea) with some
connection variations which are bolts, natural fiber ijuk, and Fibre-Reinforced
Plastic. From those connection variations, this test was being conducted towards
6 (six) connections models: aligned bolt fiber connection, aligned bolt fiber and
natural fiber ijuk connection, aligned FRP fiber connection, aligned FRP fiber
and bolt connection, perpendicular bolt fiber connection, perpendicular FRP
fiber and bolt connection. This test was loaded with monotonic quasi-static load.
From the test results obtained the lowest connection strength on the model using
a bolt connection with the result is 8.73 kN and obtained the highest connection
strength on the model of FRP fibers parallel connection with the results is 43.73
kN. Then with the addition of FRP, the results show a significant increase of
joint strength and stiffness, reaching an increase of ± 4-5 times compared to
other connection models. Fibre-Reinforced Plastic gives an positive impact to
the connection by postponing the splitting failure of the connection which is at
the collapse mechanism.
